John Schmidt, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1942, is the author of more than fifty books, including several novels and books on writing, editing, photography, and art. His fiction has appeared in The Best American Short Stories (2000) and The Best American Mystery Stories (2003). John has taught writing at the University of Iowa since 1970. He has received many awards for his teaching and scholarship, including the Iowa Fellowship in Creative Writing for Distinguished Teaching of Writing
For five years he was editor of the literary magazine The Paris Review. He lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two sons.
